Sewing Weekend

My weekend of sewing is over.  I stayed up much later than I thought possible (for me), but I was definitely productive!  I did not quite finish all I had hoped, but I feel good about what I accomplished.  I finished 5 pairs of pants, another half way finished and two more cut out ready, to be put together.  Not too shabby for two nights of sewing.  Putting pockets on all of Miller's pants really slowed me down, but the finished product is definitely worth it!  If he did not love having pockets so much I probably would not have put them on every pair, but now that I am done (well almost) I am so glad I took the extra time for the added detail.  Sorry I do not have any pictures yet.  I wish I had a good excuse, but it is really just because I am lazy and did not feel like taking pictures tonight.

However, I do have a very good tip to share for my sewing friends.  I wish I remembered where I read about this so that I could give credit where credit is due, but I don't.  I just discovered all the great uses in sewing for freezer paper a couple of months ago.  I have been using it mainly for appliques.  My favorite new use for it is for tracing patterns!  Genius.  I don't know how I did not think of this on my own.  No more tracing paper (or taping tissue paper together in desperate times), pining, tracing on fabric....  Because of the waxy side of freezer paper, you can iron it on to the fabric and it will stick and then easily peel off when you are finished.

Trace your pattern on the freezer paper and then iron on to your fabric, PAPER SIDE UP
Then cut!  Does not get much easier than that.  Or faster.
I cut out 12 pairs of pants (including linings) and the pattern will still iron on.  I am sure that at some point it will no longer iron on, but hopefully I will not be making too many more size 3T pants for Miller!

Murray surprised us and came home from Boston early.  So we got to spend the evening cheering on Alabama together!  Ella loves being a cheerleader.  And even though you cannot tell in this picture, Miller now likes his Alabama pants.  Murray told him the elephants say Roll Tide and that did it.  Look at Sara Wells, so happy to be part of the gang!
